Residents of Naridon village in Kaduna State say armed men attacked the community late on July 26, leaving dozens of people dead and others injured.

The Associated Press and Reuters each cited local residents or community representatives who put the death toll at at least 30. Those accounts are consistent on the location and scale of the attack, but they are not a substitute for a completed official investigation. At the time this report was prepared, Genuine Update had not located a final public casualty statement from Kaduna police or another government agency.

Derek Christopher, chairman of the Southern Kaduna Peace and Security Network, told AP that the community had faced an attack around the same period last year. Reuters separately quoted a local youth leader who said attackers entered the village near midnight and opened fire.

The identity and motive of the attackers had not been established publicly. No arrest should be inferred, and the reported casualty total may change as authorities and hospitals reconcile records.
