The Milwaukee Brewers won the first World Series championship in franchise history on Oct. 28, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 and taking the series four games to one. The clincher came in the 58th season of a franchise that began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and moved to Milwaukee the next year.
Milwaukee’s only previous World Series appearance was in 1982. The city’s last Major League Baseball championship had been won by the Milwaukee Braves in 1957, before that team moved to Atlanta.
