Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said it dismantled an industrial-scale methamphetamine laboratory and arrested a Mexican national whom it described as a central figure in the operation. The agency said the suspect was intercepted while attempting to leave the country.

Authorities reported seizing laboratory equipment, precursor chemicals and finished methamphetamine. The allegations have not been tested in court, and an arrest does not establish guilt. The agency said its investigation was continuing.

Associated Press reporting corroborated the raid and arrest while noting Nigeria’s growing role as both a transit point and production base for synthetic drugs.
