The Nigerian Air Force says there were no survivors among the 25 people aboard an ATR-42 that crashed near a naval base in Igbokoda, Ondo State, while flying from Benin to Lagos on a routine mission. The service said the aircraft carried 20 passengers and five crew members.
That total revises an earlier official account. A State House statement issued after the crash referred to 25 passengers and seven crew members, while the Air Force’s later statement put the total aboard at 25. Officials had not publicly explained the discrepancy at the time of publication.
President Bola Tinubu ordered an immediate investigation into the cause, declared three days of national mourning and directed that flags be flown at half-mast. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
