Ukraine said its forces struck two large Russian oil refineries overnight into July 29, expanding a long-range campaign against energy facilities that Kyiv says support Moscow’s war effort.

The Associated Press reported that Ukrainian officials identified facilities in the Ryazan and Yaroslavl regions as targets. Russian regional authorities acknowledged drone attacks and reported injuries in Ryazan, but they did not confirm the full damage claimed by Ukraine. Russia’s Defense Ministry separately said air defenses intercepted hundreds of drones across several regions and occupied Crimea.

Because both sides are belligerents, their operational claims require caution. Genuine Update could not independently verify the scale of damage, the number of drones that reached their targets, or the effect on refinery output. No independently verified territorial change is involved.

The strikes are consequential because refineries sit at the intersection of Russia’s domestic fuel supply, export earnings and military logistics. They also came as Kyiv sought additional Western support following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
