Subaru of America is recalling more than 541,000 SUVs because their certification labels list an incorrect gross axle weight rating, according to federal recall records.

The affected group includes certain 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid vehicles, 2025–2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid vehicles, and 2019–2026 Ascent vehicles. An incorrect rating could lead an owner to overload a vehicle, increasing crash risk.

Subaru reported no known U.S. crashes or injuries connected to the labeling error. The remedy does not require a mechanical repair: affected owners will receive a corrected label and may apply it themselves or have a dealer install it at no charge. Owner notifications are expected to begin in late August.

Drivers should verify their own vehicle by identification number because model and year alone do not confirm inclusion. The federal campaign number is 26V436000, and both NHTSA and Subaru provide VIN lookup tools.
