Georgia’s Constitutional Court began hearings on a lawsuit by 88 Georgian Dream lawmakers seeking to declare five opposition parties unconstitutional and ban them. The court’s notice scheduled merits hearings for Oct. 21–23. The targeted groups include the United National Movement, Coalition for Change, Lelo/Strong Georgia, the Federalists and Gakharia for Georgia. The plaintiffs allege the parties threaten the constitutional order; opposition leaders reject that accusation and say the case aims to remove political rivals. AP reported that four of the five parties won about 38% of votes in the 2024 parliamentary election. No ruling was reported in the sources reviewed.
