Authorities in southwest China said the confirmed death toll from the Chongqing landslide has risen to 51, while 10 people remain missing after crews ended the land phase of the search.

The Associated Press reported the updated figures on July 30, citing local authorities. Ten people were injured in the disaster, and three had been discharged from hospital. The casualty count is official but may still change as authorities reconcile missing-person and identification records.

The landslide struck a county in Chongqing municipality on July 17, collapsing homes and trapping residents. China’s Ministry of Emergency Management activated a Level-II national response and sent a working team to support local rescue operations. The central government later allocated 30 million yuan for emergency recovery.

With the land search concluded, the focus shifts to accounting for those still missing, supporting displaced families and assessing the risk of further slope failures. No cause should be treated as final until the authorities release a completed investigation.
