The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the amount of acute respiratory illness sending people to health-care facilities is very low nationally. COVID-19 activity is low in most areas, seasonal influenza activity is low, and RSV activity has peaked in most regions after starting later than usual in parts of the country.
Low national activity does not mean respiratory viruses have disappeared. Conditions vary by community, and older adults, very young children, and people with weakened immune systems can face higher risk even when overall levels are modest. Wastewater trends, emergency-department visits, and hospitalizations can also move at different speeds.
The CDC recommends checking local conditions and taking simple precautions when sick or recently exposed, including good hygiene and considering a mask around people at higher risk. The agency's data channel is designed to provide a broad situational picture rather than individual medical advice. Anyone with severe symptoms should seek professional care.
